Contents coverage

As a renter, you do not have an interest in the building you reside in other than it is habitable.  As a result you do not need insurance for the structure itself but you do want to have adequate coverage for your belongings that are inside.  A renters policy will provide this needed coverage as well as something called loss of use.  If the building sustains a fire, lightning strike or some other kind of loss that makes it uninhabitable, your renters policy would provide coverage up to the policy limits for you to reside somewhere else until you could return home.  A renters policy would also provide you with liability protection should someone get injured on the premises.  Whether you are renting your first apartment, one of our new local apartment homes or a student in school and do not own a home you can certainly get the coverage for your belongings with a renters policy.  Just like an ordinary homeowners, you can also endorse your renters policy for these common items and more:

  • backup of sewers and drains
  • ID Fraud
  • personal injury
  • permitted incidental occupancy (home office or studio)

Additional Savings

A Renter's policy is relatively inexpensive to begin with as rates are typically as low as $125 per year.  Combine a policy with an automobile and you will get an account discount on both the renters and auto as well as these other typically available discounts:

  • antitheft
  • smoke detectors
  • fire alarms
  • deadbolt locks
  • sprinkler systems
  • fire extinguishers
